Sala has posted a base for the world map. Here we will discuss how to modify it to make it into a legit full map, with detail and everything, then finally work will begin on changing it into in-game graphics. Accepted tweaks to the map will go in the next post, after that is discussion and suggestions. Tweaks will be added based on a grid based system for easier identification, and so that we don't get swarmed with XBAWKS HUEG images - instead, posting only grid sections that were tweaked. Here's the list of the grid template and the grid section names: [See: Attached image] - This contains both the grid map you're going to be saving, as well as a smaller map showing what the nine sections are (notated by the first nine letters of the greek alphabet: α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ and ι (you can copy paste these symbols from here when saying what sections of the map you're editing/posting). Also included: each section individually. This will take place over the next two of my posts as well, be sure to nab them for reference sake. When posting what you're suggesting, crop the grid you're suggesting for, make the edits there, and post the edited grid section. This makes things easier to understand, as we can see what exactly it is you're suggesting, and it keeps the thread from being just a spamfest of minor tweaks of a big picture. Do not include major locations at this time, just things like mountains and rivers and stuff.

This post reserved for accepted changes. Note that changes can be changed themselves - adding off of another idea is perfectly fine and in fact encouraged. These will be considered to be "Updated" sections. At the bottom of the post include four more pics showing sub-sections for their respective main section.

First thing I'm gonna say is that I want the middle section to be connected to one of the upper continents through a land bridge of sorts. Assuming the guests show up in the center area, it's probably going to be geographically blocked from the sections of that area's terrain that belong to the clans they're supposed to visit later (thus avoiding implied stronger monsters in different clan areas). If the land bridge is connected to mercury, this would mean that the characters are most likely to gain access to a boat then, thus getting a main mode of transportation and exploration early enough to encourage exploration. I don't have anything specific per se, but this would be a decent example: Sections: C2, C3, D2, D3: What do y'all think? Also included at the end of this post: Map Sections Eta, Theta, and Iota.

I was thinking of having a sprite location there, similar to what is used between Indra and Gondowan in GS2; however, there probably isn't enough space there for that yet. Having a full land bridge would be cool too though.
Mercury: Another idea that I had was to have a way to access the "Arctic" through the Mercury continent. This would probably have something to do with a Karagol Sea-type mode of transportation at first. Either that, or an ice bridge that melts later on in the game.
Mars: Perhaps there should be some mountain between the main continent and the snowy area, so we can put in a bit of palette-swap code without having the whole world change in front of the player's eyes. Then again, seeing as we are in a glitchy world, this might seem okay to do.

No, like in the original games, there'd be mountains and forests in many many places, particularly areas that look like they'd have tectonic activity, so some coast lines, where two continents would be moving towards each other, etc... And that land bridge? Probably pretty mountainous I'm guessing. There probably would be a location to move between the central and mercury area, kinda like how Dekhan Plateau worked, though most likely it's a mountain passage. Also, I'm going to suggest a Mount Aleph-like location in the center of the central continent. It'd likely be rather large and exaggerated, but not covering the whole continent (large enough that a huge single mountain represents it and it has a cave or path-like entrance would work, though). Rivers flowing from it could probably be used to separate Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury lands from each other (though likely in combination with other smaller mountains). I also like the idea of having this general location not be claimed by the four clans, given the importance of it, so there'd be a strip of unaffiliated land. There used to be bridges here, but they've since been smashed and won't be rebuilt. Ever. You know, wars and all. Not sure what we could do to separate Mars and Mercury, though... don't want to rely too heavily on mountains and rivers, but we may have to. So here's the suggestion so far: Grid spots C2 and C3: Since Mars and Mercury don't really have a reason to burn bridges, that bridge could be temporarily out - perhaps due to and accident or an eruption or something. Heck, I say that when it comes time to go to Mars, the bridge has been repaired, and the player can choose whether to take the bridge or go through the north.

True enough. Oh yeah, something that I made that might help for this; a comparison between Angara and the Mars continent. Angara has been resized, the Mars continent has been flipped horizontally. For those who can see it, the small red dot on Angara should be where Mt. Aleph would normally lie. This should be an indicator of how large these continents really are. The rivers seem large enough, but the Mt. Aleph-like location is really large - unless that is what you are going for. I will post some ideas for the Venus continent soon.

...We need a bigger map. Much much higher resolution, more grid spots for editing. We have a full resolution map of the GS world itself, right? Just crop out the main part and make a map of that size... do you think you can do that? Because the Mount Aleph that I made looks like it's at least half the size of Australia now.

I should be able to get to it after school today, but I am probably going to get home late because of some filming and extra work. Exams start on Friday, so I should be able to get the majority of my stuff done today.
Arsenal: Paint, Gimp, Photoshop/trial
So yeah, I can probably get it done soon. If not by the end of today or tomorrow, we should have it by the end of the week.

I'm also gonna suggest Paint.NET, I use it and it works pretty well. If those programs don't cut it for you, try that one. Also, don't worry too much about making the grid, I can pull that off for you. All I really need is the base map itself.

I won't get pissed off, but I will point out that emote spam is against the rules and will get you into trouble. So it's not me you have to worry about.
It's the admin. Or if you want to stick to Clan Wars lore, the Gods.

if the players are getting a sship early, shouldn't this have a barrier kinda like the one around toampo beach in gs2? then, later they could get a flying ship and fly over at the end of the game. also, I was thinking that we should work on 1 continent at a time going in the order the MCs will reach them. that way we are not just switching between continents because it is a big map.

Aye, that was the plan. Forgot to put the grey dots to show the... what, reef, is that what those are supposed to be?
Anywho, looks like the magic number for the map size is going to be 5000x4000. Basically, XBAWKS HUGE. However, since we're using simple colors, the filesize shouldn't be too bad. Gonna have to say that we will be using a grid system, and that the sheer size we will be using to keep scale in mind will pretty much mean you HAVE to use grid-based edits.
I've attached the full-size TLA map to this post, Sala, please try to either be this size or a large fraction of it (such as half - 2500x2000). It'll help much much more in terms of having a sense of scale as to what we're planning.

Check your ad blocker and if you have it, noscript settings. You have to allow both Photobucket and pbsrc (Photobucket Source) for it to work properly. Likely the same case as image shack.
Nice edits, by the way. When Sala gets back with the bigger map, I'll get the new grid up and make a version of that.
I'm thinking that due to the size, I'm gonna separate it into a 3x3 grid, and within that each has a 3x3. So instead of just being B3, it could be βA3. It'd keep the size of the pics down, while also keeping it big enough (hopefully) to make meaningful edits. I linked a sample grid. Be warned, it's full size, so it's gonna be huge. Since we can probably separate it into nine major sections (separated here by the 3px lines), I figured there'd be no need to have 25 subsections in each - nine should be enough, you know?
Edit: How odd, it's smaller than the last, but I can't see the thumbnail... anyone else getting that? Edit2: Ah, it was corrupt. No wonder. Fix'd. Edit3: Or not! Apparently, editing in an attachment causes a White Screen of Death! Edit4: ...or yes. Dammit, apparently it's the file itself. I have to make it all over again and hope it doesn't murder the thread.... Edit5: Ha ha! TAKE THAT, SERIES OF GLITCHY AND OVERSIZED PICS! Finally got it right.
